HOW CAN I VOLUNTEER FOR THE
DIRECTIONS & TRAINING INFORMATION
PARKING ATTENDANTS AT SMITH ROCK STATE PARK PARKING LOTS:
We need six (6) volunteers to assist at all Smith Rock State Park Parking Lots. There is the Main Park RV Parking Lot near the State Park entrance sign and parking north at the viewpoint turnaround. We also anticipate parking at the Rex House Parking Lot.
DO NOT BLOCK ANY DRIVERS FROM GOING UP TO THE PARK.
Note: The road will begin closing on NE Crooked River Drive at 6:00 a.m. in order to prepare for the complete closure at 6:15 a.m. for the start of the Half Marathon. The road will begin closing at 6:45 a.m. on NE Crooked River Drive in order to prepare for the complete closure of the start of the 5K & 10K at 7:00 a.m.
DAY OF RACE REGISTRATION:
We need six (6) volunteers to assist registration coordinator with registering new participants, capturing required data, giving new information to timing crew, and collect monies. 2-3 volunteers to assist at packet pickup table as there might be more participants that could not pickup their packets before hand. Volunteers should also be vigilant by keeping the area secure at all times. There will be buckets for participants to place their personal items in while they race. This area must be monitored and all participants are expected to number their packages with their bib number for collection after the race.
5K TURNAROUND DUTIES:
We need two (2) adults to monitor the 5K turnaround on NE 33rd Street making sure the runners or walkers do not go off course. Volunteers need to be at their stations by 6:00 a.m. or earlier. There will also be a water station for the 5K runners/walkers; please see instructions on how to hand out water to the participants. Volunteers are not allowed to talk on their cell phones during race time, as it provides distractions and the runners & walkers can get off course quickly if not turned around to head back down 33rd Street. Please direct runners and walkers to return to Wilcox and to NE Crooked River Drive to the Finish Line.
AID STATION VOLUNTEERS OUT ON THE COURSE:
Please see AID STATION VOLUNTEER INSTRUCTIONS for additional information.
TRAFFIC CONTROL ON COURSE &/OR AT CROOKED RIVER DRIVE:
Certified Flaggers will be our Traffic Control officials, no volunteers are allowed to be traffic controllers.
TRAFFIC SPOTTERS ON CROOKED RIVER DRIVE:
We need four (4) traffic spotters on Crooked River Drive for runners and walkers coming to finish line. They will monitor local traffic for ingress &/or egress safety, or monitor walkers & slower runners to clear path for faster runners. Traffic Spotters have NO AUTHORITY TO STOP TRAFFIC FLOW. There are some critical areas on Crooked River Drive (blind corners) and the Smith Rock Race Group officials will supply the areas where spotters need to be posted.
PARK CLEAN UP DUTIES:
We need two (2) volunteers to clean up waste around the picnic areas and the start/finish line. Recycle bins will be available for recyclable materials, help knock down tables, tents, and fold chairs. If needed and you are able-bodied, we also need help from volunteers to load trucks and trailers with race equipment.
